Senate Tags Pipeline Attacks Counterproductive

The Senate has described the blowing up of gas installations by the Niger Delta militants as counterproductive to the region, its economy and its people.
Chairman of Senate Committee on Petroleum Downstream Sector, Senator Kabiru Marafa, stated this on Friday, while speaking with State House correspondents.
He had just held a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
Senator Marafa pleaded with the militants to embrace dialogue with the Federal Government.
He described President Buhari as a listening leader that is ready to deal with the problems in the Niger Delta region.

Algerian attacker and Leicester City player, Riyad Mahrez has been named the African Footballer of the Year 2016. He was announced winner at the 2016 Glo CAF Awards which held in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city on Thursday. Mahrez beat Gabonese striker, Pierre Emerick Aubamenyang who was last year’s winner and Senegal’s Sadio Mane to win the African Best Player crown. It was a good night for Nigeria as Asisat Oshoala won the award for Women Player of the Year. Most Promising Player of the Year Award went to Nigeria and Manchester City youngster, Kelechi Iheanacho, while his compatriot in Arsenal, Alex Iwobi won the Youth Player of the Year. Wike Calls On Nigerians To Support Families Of Slain Officers

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has called on Nigerians to make direct investments in the lives of legionnaires and the families of late servicemen, who lost their lives defending the territorial integrity of the country. The governor made this known on Friday while speaking at the 2017 Emblem Appeal Launch marking the Armed Forces and Remembrance Day Celebration in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He said the families of slain servicemen and legionnaires deserve all the support they can get from the people. “There is need for us to give them the required support.
