Legal Practitioner Accuses EFCC Of Shoddy Investigation

A Legal Practitioner, Emeka Ngige (SAN), has purported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC’s) investigation in the cases of some judges who were raided by the DSS as well as the general fight against corruption, may not have been properly done.
He made this known while addressing the opinion that the Federal Government has lost a string of cases almost in quick successions; a situation which some have described as embarrassing.
Analysing the perception which the case now gives to the EFCC, he noted that they have not done their homework properly, although adding that the institution was under pressure.
“They have not done their homework, in rushing to charge  – but the institution was under pressure, because of the public interest generated by that raid, they were under pressure to immediately file charges.”One of such cases, was that of Justice Adeniyi Ademola and his wife, over 18-count criminal charges filed against them by the Federal Government which the court struck out.
He, however, said that he was handicapped in making a full analysis of the judgement of the FCT High Court. Also, he noted that going by information from the media, it appeared that the judge relied on series of admissions made by the prosecution witness in the course of his cross examination.
“From what I read, it appears that the prosecution witness answered most of the questions to favour the accused persons, so those admissions may have led his lordship in saying that there is no case for the accused person to answer.”
Mr Ngige, contrary to his initial position, also believes that it is too early for anyone to say the prosecution was incompetent or that they didn’t do their homework well because according to him, it is likely to be appealed against.
The Department of State Services had accused Justice Ademola of receiving 30 million Naira from a senior lawyer, through a Guarantee Trust Bank account allegedly operated by his wife, a former Head of Service in Lagos State.
The Presidency was said to have considered Justice Okeke’s judgement as a strange outcome which is capable of undermining the war against corruption.

Senator Isiaka Adeleke Dies At 62

A member of the Nigerian Senate, representing Osun West Senatorial district, Isiaka Adeleke, has died at 62. A family source who spoke to Channels Television under the condition of anonymity, said Adeleke died at Biket hospital in Osogbo at 6:00am on Sunday. When his corpse was brought to his home in Ede town, the atmosphere became tense with friends and family members weeping uncontrollably. As at the time of filling the report, the body had been taken to the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo for autopsy. Mr Adeleke, who was the first governor of the state in 1992, under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), was elected into the Senate in 2015 as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Passengers Accuse Dana Air Of Neglect After Port Harcourt Mishap

The passengers of the near crash landing of Dana Plane at Port Harcourt International Airport are lamenting over what they describe as utter neglect being experienced since the incident occurred. According to them, no one has come forward to explain what transpired yesterday evening or inform them about how to access their luggage. One of the passengers also informed our correspondent that contrary to reports, the plane landed normally, but could not explain what happened thereafter.
