Supreme Court To Hear Suit Against Makarfi’s Appeal On May 4

The Supreme Court will on May 4, 2017 hear the objections filed against the hearing of an appeal brought before it by the Ahmed Makarfi led National Caretaker Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The motion challenging the competence of Makarfi’s appeal was filed on behalf of the PDP by Mr. Latif Fagbemi and another motion filed by Senator Ali Modu Sheriffs lawyer, Mr. Akin Olujimi for the same purpose. The two motions dated March 16 and 21, 2017 are asking the Apex court to strike out Makarfi’s appeal, on the ground that they have no authority to file it on behalf of the PDP. The two applicants are contending that by virtue of the Court of Appeal’s judgment, delivered on February 27, 2017 in Port Harcourt, the issue of authentic leadership for the PDP has been settled. They are also contending that since the Makarfi led leadership had lost at the Appellate court, they have no legal standing to file any appeal on behalf of PDP as an Appellant in the suit. Th...

Kaduna Investment Summit: To Boost State Business Activities

As part of efforts to boost business activities and generate huge revenue for development, the Kaduna State will be holding its second edition of Economic and Investment Summit in April 2017. Briefing journalists on the preparations ahead of the summit with the theme “Making Kaduna the Investment Destination of Choice” the Executive Secretary of Kaduna State Investment Promotion Agency( KADIPA), Gambo Hamza, said the summit is organized to consolidate on the gains recorded last year. He announced that foreign investors from the United States, European Union and other parts of the world as well as local investors are expected to attend the 2017 edition of investment Summit. Seven Dead As Multiple Bomb Blasts Rock Maiduguri

 Seven people are said to have died, following multiple explosions in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. It was gathered that the blasts occurred early on Wednesday morning at an Internally Displaced Persons camp located at Muna garage. According to the spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA) Sani Datti, the attacks were staged by five suicide bombers in three different locations, setting off an inferno which burned down many of the tents used by the IDPs. The first blast reportedly occurred at Muna Kumbori where two persons were said to have died. The second location is Muna Dagalti where one death was recorded, while the third blast occurred at Muna Bulaya, killing one person

Suspected Boko Haram Members Arrested In Ekiti, Other States – DSS

The Department of State Service (DSS) has arrested a suspected Boko Haram kingpin, other members of the fleeing insurgency group in some states across the country. The agency made the arrest during a recent operation carried out in Ekiti, where the suspected Boko Haram kingpin in was nabbed, with other members of the group caught in Nassarawa, Kogi, Yobe, Kano, Bauchi, and Kaduna States. According to the spokesperson of the DSS, Tony Opuiyo, in a statement released stated that some alleged notorious kidnappers in Niger and Kaduna states have also been nabbed. “On March 20 2017, a suspected Boko Haram kingpin, Adenoyi Abdusalam was arrested in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State by a Joint Military/DSS Operation Team. Unions Clash With Arik Air Staff Over Airline’s Management

It’s been a day of protests at the Arik Air office in Lagos, as Aviation Unions and staff of the airline have clashed over differences in the operations of the airline. Aviation Union Workers earlier on Thursday trooped out to demonstrate against the current management which they described as intolerant of unionism, particularly concerning the sack of its members. However, the staff of the airline also staged a protest denouncing the action of the Aviation Workers Unions, which they described as detrimental to the fortunes of Arik. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority is said to have stepped into the matter and is holding a peace meeting with the parties, to resolve the dispute. The protests have obstructed the airline’s flight operations and free movement of traffic on the airport road. Earlier, the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria in February announced the takeover of Arik as a result of the airline’s bad debt.

Yobe Govt Receives Hospital Equipment Worth 70 Million Naira

The Department for International Development (DFID) and Maternal and Neonatal Child Health 2 (MNCH2) have delivered hospital equipment worth 70 million Naira to Yobe state Government. Delivering the equipment, the team leader Zanna Ali said the supply is aimed at improving health care delivery services at primary level across the state. He said the supply of hospital equipment by the organisations have been on since 2006 and the assistance will continue with the drive for enhance health care across the state. “The equipment we are delivering to Yobe state cost is worth 70 million Naira and they are aimed at equipping our primary healthcare hospitals across the state”. “Since 2006 we have been into this and I can assure you that we will continue to do this to improve the health of the people. Court Orders Forfeiture Of Yakubu’s $9.8m To FG

A Federal High Court in Kano has ordered the forfeiture of the sum of $9,772,000 and £74,000 recovered from a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr Andrew Yakubu, to the Federal Government.
